Broadcastnow (Technology) - ITV is adopting a new content tracking standard to monitor copyright infringements, help with rights reporting, and ensure copyright owners get paid.
ISAN (The International Standard Audiovisual Number) features a colourful barcode, which is pictured here, and is already used on Blu-ray discs and on Microsoft's Windows Media.
It's a voluntary system that works by allocating a unique 24 digit code to each piece of audio-visual content. The ISAN number is permanent & internationally recognised. It is expected that ITV's backing of ISAN will increase its adoption both in the UK and throughout the world.
